Origin Bifolding Doors for New Build Homes

Many of us live in new build homes. For many people, a recently constructed property offers the benefits of low maintenance, a long warranty on the build and of course, the latest insulation materials to lower our heating bills.

How bifolding doors can add space and light to a new home.

As we try to cram more properties into plots of land, our houses have become smaller, and there are now more three storey properties constructed. The other constraint of newer properties is they have fewer reception rooms than older homes.

Open Living were asked to come to the assistance of a homeowner living in a recently built three storey end terraced house. The brief was to create a new kitchen extension at the back of the house. To this, we provided our industry leading Origin bifolding doors.

The premium quality aluminium door from Origin was designed as a three-panel layout, arguably one of the most popular configurations for a bifolding door. To this, we provided an access leaf.

Like many terraced properties, often these only have one door leading out into the back garden. An access leaf provides a quick and convenient way to get in and out of the home without having to fold the doors back every time. Access leaves work as a conventional hinged door, fitted with the 8 point locking system and a high-quality door handle.

In keeping with the original white windows, the Origin doors were polyester powder coated in a gloss white finish to RAL 9910 shade.

The RAL 9910 colour is very popular with white aluminium windows. Not only is it clean and bright in appearance, but it also has exactly the right amount of gloss level and looks great if placed next to quality white PVCu windows.

The same colour shade is applied to the cill the doors sit upon, the bifolding door magnets as well as the treacle vent in the head of the doors.

As this was a new extension, the new habitable room needs to have the required level of background ventilation. The bifolding doors have a discreet aluminium trickle ventilator. The trickle vent is positioned at the head of the doors within a specially designed frame extension, colour coated to match the doors.

The trickle vent, aside from being a mandatory requirement, enables clean airflow into the room, helping to reduce moisture levels in the home.

Open Living helped create a new improved kitchen and living space in this modern family home that now boasts an excellent way to enjoy the garden all year round, floods the downstairs of the home with natural daylight and will add great value to the property.
